More of the Ugh!

Ok, so things are not going in the direction I would like.

What was a few setbacks have morphed into many setbacks now.

Things like, I sliced my thumb and needed stitches. There was *so* much blood, it looked like a murder scene. I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding. Eventually, I did, but only if I kept my thumb straight. As soon as I bent it, the bleeding started again.

I never stopped to consider how many times in a day we bend our thumbs. Now I know! Things like picking up a plate, brushing hair, pulling the blankets on the bed up, getting dressed – all of the things! As soon as I do bend it, I’m quickly reminded I cannot do that. It’s very painful to do so as it tugs at the stitches and I don’t want the bleeding to start again. This happened for a day or two after I got the stitches, but thankfully it eventually stopped.

My thumb has a large bulky white bandage around it, which makes it stand out like a . . .well . . .a sore thumb (pun intended! 😉 ). It helps keep it straight.

On the positive note here, I CAN now give an emphatic thumbs up that really stands out 😉

Then a few days later, I did a number on my back. The pain and sharp spasms were so intense, I could not get out of bed for a few days. Even then, walking was almost impossible. Thankfully, I had a couple of medical appointments already scheduled. I had considered cancelling them because walking was just too difficult but at the urging of my daughter, I kept them.

Did I mention getting into them was challenging? The short walk into both of them caused my heart rate to spike to 119. 🥴

I am happy I decided to keep them as they both helped a lot. As with these injuries though, one treatment is more for the short-term. The reality is more appointments are needed to help fix this completely. Unfortunately, I can’t afford any more appointments, so I will need to live with the pain while I try to find another way.

I am not giving up though. As I lie in bed, I am formulating a plan for recovery and beyond (or trying to at least). We have BIG and EXCITING plans in the works for next year (shhh it’s a secret for now 😉 ) so remaining like this is NOT an option.

Wish me luck
